Profotio presents “The Body in Motion”

The human form is an extraordinary creation. It is capable of performing many different and varied physical activities. The camera is the perfect tool for capturing these actions. Whether it is the beautiful and graceful steps of a dancer, the skilled actions of an athlete or the simple and playful activities of a child, the human body is designed for movement. Profotio is seeking those images that best display the body in motion.

Still life images can be created from just about anything that doesn’t move. In the strictest sense, the definition of “still life subjects” refers to an inanimate object. Taking a more lenient stance, we believe there are other life forms that don’t move such as flowers, food, etc. and consider them still life as well. So that’s it in a nutshell. Be creative, think outside the box and most of all have fun!

ENTRIES: Images will be judged on overall image quality and originality to the theme. Images can be color, black & white and HDR. You may submit only ONE image.

Do you have an eye for what makes the perfect travel photo? The Independent on Sunday/ Insight Guides 2012 travel-photography competition is your chance to prove it. Readers can take a picture of absolutely any travel destination. The only brief they have is to capture the essence of the place and to submit three outstanding, top-quality colour images (of one destination or more), either digitally or in print.

The prizes
First prize: A travel photography commission from Insight Guides (worth £3,000) plus an Olympus PEN Lite(E-PL3) kit (RRP £550). The new retro-styled PEN Lite is a favourite with those who want SLR quality without the bulk of a traditional camera.
Second prize: Olympus E-PM1 kit (RRP £450). The gorgeous new Olympus PEN Mini is one of the world’s smallest and lightest system cameras with interchangeable lenses. It also takes beautiful full-HD movies, and is very easy to use.
Third prize: Olympus XZ-1 (RRP £400). The new XZ-1 camera combines the image quality and adjustability of system cameras and the portability of digital compact cameras.
Adult winners and a companion will be given dinner and an overnight stay plus breakfast at the Corinthia Hotel.
The under-18 prize: an Olympus Tough camera TG-820 (RRP: £270). This next-generation of Tough compacts sets a new benchmark by combining the trademark indestructibility of Olympus with superb picture quality.
How to enter
Entrants must be resident in the UK and should provide three different colour photographs capturing the essence of a destination, or destinations. Submissions must not have been previously entered into any other photography competition. All photographs must have been taken since 1 January 2012. Entries can be emailed to: photocontest@insightguides.co.uk as high resolution Jpegs to a minimum of 3MB at 300 DPI and a maximum of 15MB at 300 DPI, individually or as a group of three. Alternatively, you can send your prints, no bigger than 10×8 inches to: Travel Photography Competition, APA Publications, 58 Borough High Street, London SE1 1XF. Note that entries cannot be returned and all must be labelled with the entrant’s name, address, email address, and phone number, giving a location for each image taken. Under-18 entrants must mark each image “under-18s”. All entries must be received by Friday 14 September 2012.

Traveler Photo Contest 2012is now started, read below more details
The 24th annual National Geographic Traveler Photo Contest is here! The contest runs from April 5 to June 28, with an entry fee of $15. For those procrastinators out there, we’ve extended the deadline until July 11 with an increase of $10 per entry. We are accepting digital entries online in any of these four categories: Travel Portraits; Outdoor Scenes; Sense of Place; and Spontaneous Moments.

Entry Fee: $15
All Entries received between 12:00 a.m. ET on June 28, 2012 and 11:59 p.m. ET on July 11, 2012 will be subject to an additional fee of US$10.
First Prize: One First Prize will be awarded. The First Prize consists of:
(1) a 10-day Galápagos Photography Expedition with National Geographic Expeditions for the winner and one (1) guest;
(2) the winning image will be featured in the December 2012/January 2013 edition of National Geographic Traveler;
(3) the winning image will be featured on the National Geographic Traveler photo contest website; and
(4) a one-year subscription to National Geographic Traveler magazine.
